Revolutionizing TV Studio Lighting: A Case Study in 4K Broadcast Excellence: Guangzhou TV Station HD Studio
The high-definition studio of Guangzhou TV Station used 100 units of Panel Light LP600 and LP1500 digital soft light for face lights, 150 units of Par PC613, 2 units of 1000w LED follow spots, 100 units of LB380 & 60 units of LX1000 BSWF 4-in-1 Profile digital moving lights, 100 units of SL200 and SL400 LED spotlights, and 50 units of Ellipsoidal profile EL300FC and EL400Z with high CRI. LQE provided a professional lighting solution with high CRI, flicker-free reliability for HD studio production of various entertainment programs, award shows, cultural performances, and interview programs.

In the ever-evolving world of television production, the demand for crystal-clear 4K broadcast signals has set new standards for studio lighting. Zhang Liang, the lighting project manager at Guangzhou TV Station’s HD studio, shares insights on their journey to achieve broadcast-quality illumination.
“When planning our lighting setup, we prioritized high color rendering,” Zhang explains. “Our baseline requirements included a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of Ra≥93, R9≥93, and a Television Lighting Consistency Index (TLCI) of ≥90.”
But color accuracy isn’t the only concern in modern TV studios. “Noise control is crucial during recording,” Zhang emphasizes. “We carefully evaluated each fixture’s cooling system to ensure silent operation.”
The challenge didn’t stop there. “Flicker-free performance across all color temperatures was non-negotiable,” Zhang adds. “Maintaining superb light quality while minimizing noise is fundamental for top-tier lighting equipment.”
Guangzhou TV’s new HD studio often hosts extended artistic performances, pushing lighting fixtures to their limits. “Durability and reliability are paramount,” Zhang states. “Hardware and software must perform flawlessly. In live broadcasts and recordings, a single malfunctioning light can disrupt the entire production, potentially damaging our hard-earned reputation.”
Finding a manufacturer capable of meeting these exacting standards proved daunting until LQE entered the picture. “LQE’s team worked tirelessly with us for a year, refining the solution through 7-8 revisions,” Zhang recalls. “Every detail was meticulously addressed. Ultimately, each LQE fixture perfectly fulfilled its role within our budget constraints.”
This case study underscores the critical role of advanced lighting in 4K TV production. By prioritizing color accuracy, noise reduction, and reliability, studios like Guangzhou TV are setting new benchmarks for broadcast quality.
For lighting manufacturers, the message is clear: continuous innovation in response to client feedback is essential. As Zhang’s experience demonstrates, success in the competitive world of TV studio lighting hinges on delivering solutions that not only meet but exceed the evolving demands of 4K broadcasting.
